Encon sets the right example

The entire Encon philosophy is based on ensuring a sustainable future for our planet, and that requires companies to follow suit and believe that this sustainability can only lead to growth.

Encon was a pioneer in this. Even before the well-known 'An Inconvenient Truth', Robin had been spreading his 'green' message like a young Al Gore since 2002. However, this belief proves to be a challenge. Almost everyone realises that our planet is warming up and that it calls for urgent measures. Even though we have come a long way in terms of technology, there seems to be a lack of public willingness.

Encon is our very own example of how sustainable business practices lead to growth, both in the short term and in the long term. This includes the economic aspect, where energy bills are drastically reduced, but this is also the case for consumers, suppliers and clients, whose demand for sustainability is increasing. Our society is becoming increasingly transparent, and consumers are better informed about what it is they are buying.

Consumers have a better understanding of our consumer society and are demanding—louder by the day—that companies consciously and openly opt for corporate social responsibility. Consequently, openly engaging in corporate social responsibility also creates a positive image, automatically attracting customers and subsequently employees.

We lead by example, so it stands to reason that we at Encon try to be the leading example of sustainable business operations. Every product and service provided by Encon has been applied at our office in Bilzen, a showroom displaying the best available techniques. Techniques that prove their effectiveness every day, with the level of efficiency we are very well aware of.

Sustainability covers an enormous number of facets, from people to energy. To this end, we adhere to the international ISO 26000 guideline. This allows us to showcase techniques such as the seasonal thermal energy storage system, wind turbine and solar panels. At the same time, we have also invested in the well-being of our employees, in which acoustics, lighting and work-life balance play a central role. We extend this even further by working with sustainable suppliers for coffee and materials such as tables, carpets and plants.

All these efforts allow us to proudly demonstrate how they contribute to successful growth. With the growing awareness of companies and a growing client base, Encon now needs to keep up in terms of employees. From 30 to 60 employees in just a few years, we have noticed that open sustainability has a positive effect when it comes to HR. Our employees all have 'green' at heart, and our openly sustainable business practices attract experts in the age of 'the war for talent'.

However, not every solution applies to every company. Thanks to our broad expertise, we know how to translate this into a sustainability commitment. A commitment that evolves into a mindset, for sustainability is not an end goal but in perpetual motion. Since this expertise is often not readily available within companies, you can call upon our consultants or even temporarily enlist the services of an external Sustainability Officer.
