Helping Die Keure grow sustainably through CO2 reduction and relighting

Printing, publishing, and lifelong learning. Family-owned business Die Keure creates and facilitates high-quality content for its customers. The company has been consistently focusing on making its activities more sustainable for over 10 years.

In 2021, Die Keure had a clear dual question for Encon:

  1. How can we further integrate sustainability into our daily operations
  2. How can we make this measurable to better evaluate future actions?

Both in the broad sense of the word and specifically regarding CO2. In the same year, we examined their CO2 activities, calculated their carbon footprint, and devised a reduction plan. Since then, we annually update their footprint to determine if they remain on course.

Significant CO2 initiatives

Die Keure also aims to value these efforts and incorporate them credibly into its communication with customers, suppliers, and employees. Therefore, Die Keure has had its emissions reduction targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative as consistent with levels required to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement. The targets covering greenhouse gas emissions from Die Keure’s operations (scopes 1 and 2) are consistent with reductions required to keep warming to 1.5°C, the most ambitious goal of the Paris Agreement.

This is a firm commitment they intend to pursue consistently and thoughtfully. Encon proudly supports them as a trusted partner on this admirable mission to become carbon neutral. In addition to addressing their scope 1 and 2 emissions, Die Keure also aims to move towards a more carbon-efficient supply chain.

What’s next?

Die Keure is looking towards the future with a broader perspective. Our colleague Ans noted that Die Keure could make sustainability and savings by relighting and switching to LED lighting. Encon installed this energy-efficient lighting, resulting in Die Keure saving approximately 75% annually. Additionally, they save 61% on their installed capacity and around 51,000 kg of CO2. This investment pays for itself within three years.

What’s on the agenda for Die Keure by 2030? A complete electrification of their vehicle fleet, connection to the district heating network, partial transition to digital printing, and implementation of a smart system for their heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.

We are looking forward to the sustainable growth we can achieve together with this printing and publishing partner in the coming years! Would you like to learn how you can apply these strategies to your business? Then be sure to contact us.
