Energy source above your head

Rising energy prices, the awareness that we are depleting our planet of fossil fuels and the harmful effects of burning them: key motivators for companies to take steps towards producing their own energy through natural and inexhaustible sources of energy, like the sun.

Roofs are largely untapped surfaces used for this purpose, and Diresco realised this too. Their goal is to become a carbon-neutral company by 2030. That includes scrutinising their entire production process, recovering their wastewater and also looking for ways to generate their own energy to make the production of their biological UV quartz composite even more ecological.

Diresco already knew Encon thanks to an earlier successful collaboration on tackling their lighting in seven halls. Encon identified an opportunity for solar panels and contacted Diresco again at a later stage following a group purchase. The entire process was supervised from A to Z by Encon.

The initial step involved an in-depth study to identify the options, taking into account the specific characteristics of the roof and the power consumption of the company. A technical and financial feasibility study subsequently resulted in the installation of 1,344 solar panels on the roofs of two halls.

The project accounts for a total amount of energy equivalent to the annual consumption of 114 families. The installation avoids 3,600 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year, equivalent to the planting of 7,000 trees per year.

Encon guarantees an ROI of 20 years down the line during this project. In other words, Diresco is sure of a minimum yield of their own produced renewable energy, which guarantees the payback period of the investment, while Encon closely monitors that the promised guarantees are fulfilled.

The unique Encon approach of customisation in combination with the stringent requirements and accurate monitoring of the installer ensures that Diresco is completely taken care of throughout the entire process. Thanks to the in-house knowledge, the negotiations and group buying, this way of working even ensures a cost reduction.

Encon took care of all the steps, from concept to completion. The specific approach meant that cost reduction was achieved without compromising on quality.

Only 4% of roofs are currently utilised in Belgium. All those untapped surfaces fit for use to drastically reduce CO2 emissions and harness the planet's natural energy resources. A win-win situation for both company and planet.
