Energy in harmony with nature

A place where well-being and the environment are in perfect harmony: the perfect description of a day at the spay. Wellness is literally about people's well-being, which makes a spa the perfect place for consumers to seek this harmony. CO2-neutral relaxation is the future the hospitality industry should focus on.

Elaisa Energetic Wellness perfectly catered to this and was keen to create a space centred on energy and harmony with nature: a vision they share with Encon. As part of this vision, Encon was involved right from the start of the construction project in 2012 to help them balance their systems, such as cooling, heating, ventilation and moisture control, with nature and minimise their CO2 emissions. This early involvement in the concept phase made it possible to elevate the project to a particularly high level.

'It is all about energy at Elaisa, which is why we started looking for a supplier to support us in connecting the energy of the other variety to our philosophy. And we found it with Encon.'

Jean-Luc Kumpen – owner Elaisa Energetic Wellness

Every effort was made to design solutions tailored to the environment in a way that balanced the geometry of the building, both behind the scenes and in the front. A wellness complex presents a challenge due to the use of various systems. Cooling, heating, ventilation and moisture control have to be properly coordinated with one another. Encon was able to achieve this feat by working out tailor-made solutions for this project. Various forms of energy were connected to achieve a unique solution. This was done from analysis and engineering to procurement and project management.

This involved energy generated by the lake for the climate-control of the building. It was also combined with a cogeneration unit to generate energy for other applications.

The project was also extended several times during the construction phase. Flexibility, proactive action and good communication turned this collaboration into a success story.
