Why the Encon Energy prize?
The know-how linked to environmentally friendly production and products can be an important trump card for our Belgian economy. This is immediately also the most important reason why Encon launched its Energy prize for engineering students.
The environment and sustainability sector is flourishing, but still in its infancy. And that is a major advantage, as space is available to gain a lead and to develop expertise. This is knowledge that benefits our companies, but which can also simultaneously become an important export product. All of this also applies perfectly to knowledge related to energy saving and generating sustainable energy in companies.
This is precisely the expertise and inquisitive attitude that Encon wishes to stimulate with its Energy prize. Engineering students who do their final thesis on energy saving or renewable energy can compete for this prize. The final thesis that can offer the biggest added value for company use in daily practice will win the Encon Energy prize. The Encon Energy prize is open to all engineering students in Flemish schools.
The winner of the energy prize wins a permanent job as a project engineer with Encon. Encon wishes to organise this prize annually from now on. The intention is for the Encon Energy prize to become a trusted benchmark, whose prestige simply increases.
Appearance before a reputed jury.
In addition to offering a financial prize and an attractive job, winning the Encon Energy prize also provides a great deal of prestige. The importance of the Energy prize, which will be awarded for the first time at the end of this academic year, becomes clear when we look at the composition of the jury who will make the final assessment:
- Jaak Rutten, Retail Director of SPE-Luminus
- Kurt Vandegaer, Head of Civil, Structural & Architectural Department at Bayer
- Jean-Michel Baetslé,Managing Director of Dexia Lease
- Jos Vaessen, Managing Director of Vaessen Industries
- Freddy Vandaele, Manager Electrical Engineering at Agoria
- Jan Schaerlaekens, energy adviser in the cabinet of the Flemish Minister of Energy, Housing, Cities and the Social Economy, Freya Van den Bossche
- Kathleen Venderickx, Encon partner
Students who are interested in participating will find all the information about the Encon Energy prize on this website. They can also
register here for the competition.
How can you participate in the Encon Energy prize?
Who can participate?
Industrial Engineering Students. The Encon Energy prize is open to all Flemish final-year Industrial Engineering students.
Topic of the final thesis
A student can only participate with a final thesis on a topic that is related to energy saving or renewable energy.
A successful final thesis
Only the final theses which were judged ‘satisfactory’ by the school’s jury will be eligible to compete for the Encon Energy prize.
Period
The Encon Energy prize is an annually recurring prize. The period for the first prize is the 2010-2011 academic year.
How can you register?
If you meet all of the conditions, then you can participate in the Encon Energy prize with your final thesis.
On this page you will find a registration form (from 16/11) in which you can enter all of the required information. We also request that you give a brief description of the objective and content of your final thesis at the same time. This description may take up a maximum of 1 A4 page and can be added as a separate document (Word or PDF). We must have received your registration by 31 March 2011 at the latest. Registrations after this deadline will no longer be accepted.
How do I know if I can ultimately participate?
The admissibility of the topic of each registration will be assessed by an evaluation committee. If the committee judges that the stated theme of a final thesis is not eligible to participate (because it does not adequately satisfy the thematic description of energy saving or renewable energy – see here), then the participant will be informed of this. Possible adaptations of the content are still possible up to a maximum of 14 calendar days after receipt of the evaluation committee’s advice. Submission of a completely new topic is not possible.
Your final thesis for the jury
After you have submitted your final thesis and it has obtained a satisfactory grade, you must send in the final version for assessment. Five finalists will be selected from all submissions. They must be able to defend their final thesis before a broad jury. The jury is composed of leading people from the business sector and the academic world.
